Women's Soccer Suffers First Conference Loss to Continentals

Box Score

CLINTON, N.Y. - The Hamilton College women's soccer team recorded its first program victory over Bowdoin, by beating the Polar Bears 1-0 Saturday afternoon

The Continentals improved to 8-3-0 overall and evened their conference record at 3-3-0 while handing the Polar Bears (8-2-0, 5-1-0 NESCAC) their first league loss.

Katja Dunlap scored the game's only goal, taking over the team lead with her sixth score of the year. She caught up to a long pass down the left sideline, dribbled around a defender and sent a high shot from 25 yards out inside the far post. The goal, which came just under 20 minutes into play, was her third game winner of the season.

The Polar Bears, who were outshot 16-10, had two of their best chances midway through the second period on shots by Alexa Yurick. In the 72nd minute she received a cross and sent a high shot over the hands of Hamilton goalkeeper Rachel Cooley, but the ball struck the cross bar and Cooley came down with the rebound. Five minutes later she took a long shot that went high over the net.

Cooley finished with three saves for her first career solo shutout. Bridget McCarthy made six stops for Bowdoin.

The Polar Bears look to rebound tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 p.m. against Williams.
