Men's Soccer Soars Over Eagles in Wednesday Afternoon Win

Box Score

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's soccer team returned to action after an eight-day break to defeat Husson, 4-0, in a non-conference match at Pickard Field.

The Polar Bears improve to 4-3-0 on the season and have won consecutive matches for the first time this season. The Eagles see their four-game winning streak come to an end as they drop to 6-4-0 overall.

Bowdoin controlled the pace of play throughout the contest and finally found the back of the net in the 26th minute. Connor Keefe controlled the ball low on the endline and fed Sam Ward at the top of the box. Ward settled and launched a shot that tucked under the crossbar at 25:33 for a 1-0 Polar Bear lead. Ben Citrin doubled Bowdoin's lead shortly before halftime on an exceptional individual effort. His initial shot from the left side ricocheted off the post and came directly back at him. While sprawling on the ground, Citrin put home the rebound with 50 seconds left before intermission to give the Polar Bears a 2-0 advantage.

Bowdoin got some insurance in the 54th minute when a corner kick from Ben Citrin was headed home on the back post by Eric Goitia. The Polar Bears closed out the scoring in just over seven minutes later when Citrin and Kiefer Solarte worked the ball to the middle of the box for Colton Hall, who headed home his first goal of the season at 60:48.

Stevie Van Siclen made one save over the first 68:57 for Bowdoin before giving way to Ian McNamara, who preserved the shutout with one stop in the final 21:03. Brian Potter stopped nine shots for Husson, allowing four goals, and Steven Paquette finished off the final 23:08, making three saves.

Bowdoin will return to action Saturday with a key conference match against Trinity (12:00 p.m.) in Brunswick. Husson will also return to conference play as they host Maine Maritime (7:30 p.m.) Saturday evening in Bangor.
