Women's Tennis Dominates Singles Play to Down Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Bowdoin women's tennis team won five of six singles matches to take a 7-2 win over Pomona-Pitzer on Friday afternoon.

It marks another win over a nationally-ranked opponent for the #10 Polar Bears, who move to 5-0 this spring. It is the first win for Bowdoin over #11 Pomona-Pitzer (7-1) since 2006.

Due to other matches being played at Pomona's courts, singles pairings were played first. Bowdoin claimed five of them, including straight-set wins by Kellen Alberstone (6-1, 6-1) at #1, Tiffany Cheng (6-4, 6-1) at #4 and Susanna Howard (6-4, 7-6) at #6. The Polar Bears sealed the win with three-set victories from Chantalle Lavertu (0-6, 6-3, 6-2) at #2 and Kate Winningham (6-2, 4-6, 6-4) at #5.

In doubles play, Lavertu and Winningham teamed to win 8-3 at #1 and Emma Lewis paired with Alberstone to take a 9-8 win at #3.

The Polar Bears will return to the court on Monday at Chapman.
