Baseball Team Drops First Game of the Season to Keene in Extra Innings

Box Score

AVON PARK, Fla. - The Bowdoin College baseball team dropped its first game of the spring, 4-3, in 11 innings to Keene State on Thursday afternoon.

The Polar Bears fall to 4-1 on the season while the Owls improve to 5-7 on the year.

Bowdoin took a 3-0 lead in the third frame when Kyle LeBlanc scored on a passed ball, John Lefeber brought home Duncan Taylor with a sac fly and Dan Findley came home on an error. Keene rallied to knot the game with single runs in the fourth, seventh and eighth innings, tying the contest on a passed ball in the eighth frame that forced extra innings.

Keene then plated the game-winning run in the 11th on an error to take the 4-3 win.

The loss spoiled another quality start by a Bowdoin pitcher as Erik Jacobsen went 7.0 innings, permitting two earned runs and striking out six in a no-decision. Lefeber went 3.1 innings in relief to take the loss.

Kyle LeBlanc reached base four times, including three hits and a walk. He doubled and also had a stolen base. Dan Findley had two hits for Bowdoin.

The Polar Bears will return to action with a doubleheader on Friday against MCLA.
