Men's Squash Earns Sloane Sportsmanship Award at Team Nationals

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The Bowdoin College men's squash team finished its weekend with a 1-2 record, placing 20th in the nation at the Summers Cup Division of Team Nationals on Sunday.

The Polar Bears conclude their season with a record of 13-11 and, despite their season-ending loss Sunday, were honored to receive the Sloane Award for Sportsmanship, one of the most prestigious awards in collegiate squash. It is given annually to the team, as judged by their peers, best exemplified the ideals of sportsmanship throughout the season. It is the first time that Bowdoin has won the award.

Bowdoin closed out its play at the National Tournament with an 8-1 loss to Middlebury and, in the consolation bracket, fell to George Washington, 5-4, in the 19th-place match. William Fantini was the lone Polar Bear to earn a point against Middlebury, claiming a 3-1 win.

The Polar Bears got behind early against GW, trailing 4-1, only to rally to tie the match at 4-4 before eventually dropping the 5-4 decision. Andrew Ward (#7), Matthew Cooper (#4) and Will Winmill (#8) earned 3-0 sweeps to earn points for Bowdoin. Alex Reisley rallied twice to earn a point at #9 with a 3-2 decision.
