HARTFORD, Conn. – The Bowdoin women's soccer team scored three first half goals to shut out nationally ranked Trinity 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears (7-1-1, 3-1-1 NESCAC) knocked off previously undefeated and 13th-ranked Trinity (8-1-0, 5-1-0 NESCAC) with their seventh shutout of the season. The Polar Bears have outscored their opponents 24-3 so far this year and, combined with last week's win over Brandeis, have knocked off a pair of nationally-ranked squads in the span of seven days.

Kaley Nelson and Kiersten Turner combined to net Bowdoin's first goal of the game at 16:54. With Nelson closing in on the end line, she crossed a pass back towards Turner who headed it in for the 1-0 lead. Only ten minutes later the Polar Bears doubled the score as Molly Popolizio one-timed the ball from 12-yards out off a feed from Turner. Abby Hammerl wrapped up the first half with under three minutes on the clock.  Settling a crossing pass from Maggie Godley, Hammerl took a blast from 18 yards to make it a 3-0 game at intermission.

While the Bantams and Polar Bears both mustered five shots in the opening half, Bridget McCarthy saved all five Trinity shots she faced. Despite holding a 4-1 edge in shots during the second frame, neither McCarthy (76:10) nor Casey Krause (13:50) were forced to make a save. Monica DiFiori made her one save of the game in the opening half.

Bowdoin will be back on the field next Saturday, October 12, as they host Hamilton in an 11:00 AM showdown.
