BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bryan Hurley set a new school record with 17 assists as the Bowdoin College men's basketball team shot 60% from the field in an 88-64 win over Maine-Presque Isle Tuesday evening at Morrell Gymnasium.

The Polar Bears, winners of seven straight, improve to 8-2 this year. Presque Isle falls to 7-8 on the season.

Hurley's 17 assists beat the previous mark of 15 held by both Dennis Jacobi and Chris Kiritsy. The mark, originally set by Kiritsy in 1986, was tied by Jacobi in 1991 and stood for 21 seasons. After nine helpers in the first half, Hurley broke the mark on a feed to Matt Palecki with 4:35 to go.

Keegan Pieri scored a game-high 23 points on 9-11 shooting for the Polar Bears, who also got 17 from Matt Mathias on 7-8 shooting from the field. Maximilian Staiger also saw double digits with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Patrick Manifold had a team-best 20 points and 11 rebounds for Presque Isle while Claude Louis added 13 in the loss.

Bowdoin never trailed in the game, although the Owls were able to stay within five points after ten minutes of play. The Polar Bears closed the half on a 24-10 run, however, to pull ahead by 19 points at intermission. The Owls could not get closer than 13 points in the opening stages of the second half and Bowdoin led by as many as 25 points in the late going to cruise to victory.

The Polar Bears will return to action on Friday evening with a NESCAC home game against Tufts at 6:00 p.m. The Owls will play next on January 16 at Eastern Maine Community College.
