Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Wesleyan University men's soccer team scored a pair of first half goals to take a 2-0 win over Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals, ranked fourth in the latest New England Division III poll, improve to 1-0-0 with a win in their season opener while the Polar Bears dip to 0-1-0 after their first outing.
Daniel Issroff had a hand in both of Wesleyan's markers, starting with the game's first goal in the 22nd minute. A bouncing ball at the top of the box came to the foot of the the sophomore midfielder, who blasted a shot that deflected high off a Bowdoin defender and soared over the leaping hands of Bowdoin goaltender Will Wise at 21:04.
Nearly seven minutes later, Issroff played a corner kick into the box, where Spencer Tanaka footed a volley into the net for to double the visitor's lead at 28:03.
Bowdoin rallied in the second half, earning a 4-1 advantage in corners and 7-5 edge in shots, but could not dent the scoring column. Adam Purdy made three saves for Wesleyan, who held a 17-12 edge in shots overall. Wise finished with four saves for the Polar Bears.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Monday afternoon at Southern Maine (4:00) while the Cardinals will play Tuesday under the lights at Springfield (7:00).
