Polar Bears Open Season With Pair of Wins at Endicott Invitational

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Bowdoin College women's volleyball team cruised to a pair of season-opening wins on Friday night at the Endicott College Invitational.

The Polar Bears defeated Gallaudet in their opener, 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 25-20, 25-15) before pummeling Plymouth State University 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-8).

Against Gallaudet, Melissa Haskell was dominant, carding 12 kills, six aces, and 16 digs in the win. Rookie Christy Jewett burst onto the scene with a 12-kill effort in her collegiate debut, connecting at a .545 rate. Sophia Cornew dished out 33 assists while Taylor Vail notched a team-best 28 digs in the victory.

In the win against Plymouth, Ellie Brennan had 10 kills while Jewett pitched in nine. Cornew had 26 assists and four aces to seal the win.

Bowdoin will close out their weekend slate with a pair of matches on Saturday against the host Gulls at 12:00 p.m. and will play a rematch against NCAA Tournament foe UMass-Boston at 4:00 p.m.
