Women's Soccer Survives Non-Conference Battle With UNE

Box Score

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Toni DaCampo scored the game's only goal late in the first half as the Bowdoin College women's soccer team defeated the University of New England 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Polar Bears improve to 5-1-0 this fall while the Nor'easters drop to 3-7-0.

After the teams traded possession for most of the opening period, Bowdoin put home the game's first goal with 12:04 left in the stanza. Carolyn Gorajek served a ball from the right wing to DaCampo at the top of the box. DaCampo ripped a strike that tucked under the crossbar and over the outstretched hands of UNE goaltender Gina Iannazzi to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.

UNE held a 17-15 shot advantage for the game, but Bowdoin's defense stood tall as Polar Bear netminder Bridget McCarthy made three saves while Louise Johnson made six in the second half to preserve the win. Iannazzi made nine saves in goal for the Nor'easters.

Bowdoin will return to action with a home contest on Saturday at noon against Connecticut College. UNE will play at 5:00 p.m. Friday evening at Endicott College.
