Box Score 2 BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College baseball team split a doubleheader against Rhode Island College on Wednesday, March 14.
The Polar Bears (5-1), who dropped their first game of the season, took game one 3-0 before falling 10-9 in game two.
Tim Welch, returning from Tommy John surgery that cost him the 2011 season, was outstanding in his first appearance since the spring of 2010, tossing six innings, permitting just four hits with nine strikeouts and one walk. Kyle LeBlanc, Jordan Edgett, Cole DiRoberto and Aaron Rosen all had two hits to lead the Bowdoin offense. Henry Van Zant earned his first collegiate save in the victory.
The bats came alive for both teams in game two, as RIC earned an extra-inning win on a Bowdoin error in the eighth inning. First-years shined at the dish for Bowdoin as Sam Canales (3-3, 3 runs), Buddy Shea (2-3, run) and Aaron Rosen (3-4, run, RBI) all had multi-hit games. Dan Findley had a pair of doubles in the loss.
Bowdoin will return to action Saturday with a doubleheader against Suffolk.
