BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's soccer team scored four times in the second half to pull away from the University of Maine-Farmington on Wednesday afternoon, 5-0.

Kiersten Turner scored twice in the win for the Polar Bears, who improve to 7-1-0 this fall marking the team's best start to a campaign since 2002. The Beavers fall to 6-4-1 with the loss.

Turner scored the first half's only goal just 8:22 into the contest, accepting a feed from the right side of the box from Molly Popolizio and tucking inside the right post for a 1-0 lead. Bowdoin out-shot Farmington 15-3 in the opening frame but Beaver netminder Beth Lebel made five saves in the period to keep it a one-goal deficit heading into the break.

Bowdoin put the game out of reach with three goals in a 13-minute span in the second half. Amanda Kinneston got behind the Beaver defense, played a nice touch around Lebel and made it a 2-0 game at 52:32. About six minutes later, Turner notched her second goal on a header off a crossbar rebound at 58:33. Audrey Phillips scored on a twenty-yard strike that banged off the right post and into the net at 65:52. Casey Blossom rounded out the scoring off an assist from Audrey Phillips at 72:59.

Lebel made nine stops in the second half to finish with 14 saves as the Polar Bears held a 33-3 advantage in shots. Bridget McCarthy made one save in 67:01 of action before giving way to Louise Johnson, who was not forced to make a save in the final 22:59.

Bowdoin has a busy weekend ahead with a pair of important NESCAC matches. The Polar Bears will travel to play at Colby (11:00 a.m.) on Saturday before returning to Pickard Field on Sunday for a clash with Williams (12:00 p.m.).

Maine-Farmington will travel to Vermont this weekend for conference games at Castleton (3:30 p.m.) on Saturday and Green Mountain (2:00 p.m.) on Sunday.
