Women's Volleyball Celebrates Senior Day By Reaching 20-Win Plateau

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's volleyball team reached the 20-win plateau for the second-straight season with a pair of strong regional wins on Saturday at Morrell Gymnasium.

The 25th-ranked Polar Bears (20-2, 7-1 NESCAC) defeated Hamilton 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-21) and Wellesley 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-18) to post 20 wins in consecutive years for the first time since 1988 and '89.

On Senior Day, it was the Bowdoin seniors who led the way for the Polar Bears. Against regional foe Wellesley, Melissa Haskell posted 14 kills to go with six digs in the win while classmates Hillary Cederna (nine kills, 15 digs) and Tory Edelman (eight kills) were key contributors to the effort. Christy Jewett also had eight kills and seven digs while Sophia Cornew dished out 37 assists.

In the morning match against Hamilton, Bowdoin used a balanced attack to take the victory. Jewett had seven kills, three aces and three blocks while Ellie Brennan added seven kills and nine digs. Cederna and Haskell had six kills each as Cornew recorded 27 assists and nine digs.

Bowdoin will return to action at the Hall of Fame Tournament at Smith and Mount Holyoke next weekend.
