Box Score MEDFORD, Mass. - The Tufts University men's basketball team snapped Bowdoin's six-game win streak in a 82-70 win on Friday evening at Cousens Gymnasium.
Tufts improves to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in the NESCAC. The Polar Bears fall to 9-3 and 1-1, and play at Bates Saturday at 4 p.m.
Bowdoin's Will Hanley was the game's high scorer with 21 points on 8 of 15 shooting. He also grabbed 13 rebounds for a double double. Ryan O'Connell chipped in with 13 points. The Jumbos shot 43.3-percent (26/60) from the field while Bowdoin finished at 42.2-percent (27/64). Tufts controlled the boards, 43-33.
Kwame Firempong finished as the leading scorer for the Jumbos with 20 points on 6 of 9 shooting and a perfect 6 for 6 at the charity stripe. Ben Ferris was 6 of 6 from the field for his 17 points, adding three assists, two steals and a block.
Bowdoin started the contest off hot, jumping out to a seven-point lead, 11-4. The Jumbos trailed 11-9 and then reeled off three consecutive three-pointers. Tufts would eventually go up by as many as 10 in the half. In the first five minutes of the second half, Tufts pushed its lead to 15 at 53-38. Senior Alex Orchowski scored 10 of the 14 points during the run. Bowdoin clawed back to within six at the 12:27 mark after three-straight points by senior Wyatt Littles.
Tufts slowly re-assumed control of the game and built the lead back up to 13 with 4:40 to go at 74-61. The closest Bowdoin got the rest of the way was eight with 1:29 remaining in the ballgame.
