Popolizio and Johnson Lead Bowdoin to Draw at Williams

Box Score

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - The Bowdoin College women's soccer team played its fourth overtime game of the season in a 1-1 draw at Williams on Sunday afternoon. The deadlock breaks a five-year losing streak for the Polar Bears (2-2-2, 0-2-2 NESCAC) against the Ephs (4-1-1, 2-0-1).

Bowdoin broke into the scoring column first when Caroline Logan struck the ball from the right corner into the middle of the box, where Ellery Gould headed the ball to Molly Popolizio, who headed the ball into the back of the net. Popolizio made a bid to make it a two-goal lead just moments later when she received a pass from Casey Blossom in the box. Yet again, she got her head on the ball, but the shot hit off the crossbar.

Williams drew even early in the second half when Hayley Cook passed the ball to Louisa Costa, who chipped it through to Brett Eisenhart in the box.  Eisenhart took a low shot that slipped past Louise Johnson to knot the contest at 50:10. Both teams had great chances to take the lead in regulation, with one of Eisenhart's shots ringing off the post and a diving save by Hannah Van Wetter off the foot of Bowdoin's Ellery Gould.

Johnson was excellent in goal for the Polar Bears, preserving the tie with eight saves. Van Wetter made two saves in net for Williams. Bowdoin will return to action next Saturday at Connecticut College.
