Bowdoin Opens Midcoast Classic With Seventh Straight Victory

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep of Colby-Sawyer in the opening match of the 2011 Midcoast Classic Friday evening at Morrell Gymnasium. The Polar Bears won by set scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-20 to roll to theirseventh-straight win.

The Polar Bears improve to 8-1 this fall and equal the best-ever start for the program established in 1998. Colby-Sawyer falls to 6-8 this season. Both teams will continue play in the tournament Saturday with matches against Rivier and Bates.

Melissa Haskell and Kristin Hanczor paced Bowdoin with 13 kills apiece. Tory Edelman had seven kills, ten digs and two aces for the Polar Bears. Sophia Cornew notched 41 assists in the victory. For the Chargers, Courtney O'Hara had seven kills and six digs.
