Bowdoin Coasts to Non-Conference Victory Over Southern Maine

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's soccer team scored a trio of first half goals to defeat the University of Southern Maine on Sunday, 3-0. The Polar Bears improve to 3-1-0 this fall while the Huskies fall to 1-6-0.

Bowdoin controlled the game from the outset, finishing with a 37-2 edge in shots and 11-1 lead in corner kicks. The Polar Bears scored twice in a span of 1:36 to take the lead, starting when Sam White redirected a cross from Alex Thomas at 18:23. Moments later, Nick Powell finished off a cross from Thomas Henshall for a two-goal lead at 19:59. Powell added another score at 25:49 as he accepted a feed from Alex Thomas at the top of the box, deked out two defenders and ripped a rocket that zipped under the crossbar.

Southern Maine's first shot of the day did not come until the 61st minute as Bowdoin netminders Will Wise (86:15) and Ian McNamara (3:45) were not forced to make a save in the win. Southern Maine used three goaltenders, starting with Jeremy Turner (three goals, two saves, 35:31) followed by Alex Charette (zero goals, four saves, 33:59) and Ian Dollen-Oliveto (zero goals, three saves, 20:30).
