LEWISTON, Maine - Trailing 2-1 after doubles play, the Bowdoin College women's tennis team swept all six singles matches en route to a 7-2 win at Bates on Wednesday evening. The 12th-ranked Polar Bears improve to 9-4 this spring (4-3 NESCAC) while the Bobcats fall to 4-11 (0-4 NESCAC).
Playing at number one doubles, Emma Lewis and Chantalle Lavertu took a convincing 8-2 win to record Bowdoin's lone point entering singles action. The Polar Bears' depth overwhelmed the Bobcats from there, as Bowdoin did not lose a set in singles play, taking all six matches in dominating fashion.
Lewis (6-4, 6-3) at number two and Lavertu (6-1, 6-0) at number three earned their second points of the evening for the Polar Bears while Emily Lombardi (6-2, 6-1) at number one and Kate Winingham (6-0, 6-4) at number four put the match out of reach. Hannah Hoerner (8-6) at number five and Susanna Howard (8-3) at number six rounded out the victory for the Polar Bears.
Bowdoin will return to action at Amherst Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
