Women's Basketball Cruises to 33-Point Win Over Middlebury

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team connected on 56% of its shots for the game in a 93-60 win over Middlebury on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears have won 13 straight overall against the Panthers dating back to 1999-00 and improve to 18-4 (4-3 NESCAC). The Panthers fall to 12-7 (2-5 NESCAC) with their fourth straight defeat.

On Senior Day at Morrell Gymnasium, Bowdoin was paced by a season-high 24 points from senior captain Katie Bergeron on 8-10 shooting from the field. Amy Hackett netted 13 points off the bench while Alex Barry added 11 points and nine rebounds. Scarlett Kirk led Middlebury with 15 points off the bench with Lauren Sanchez adding 12.

T he Polar Bears hit five three pointers in the opening half en route to a 27-point lead at the break. Trailing 4-3 in the early going, Bowdoin used a 16-4 run over a five minute span and, later in the half, went on a 19-3 surge to push their advantage to 38-13 with 4:30 to go in the period. Katie Bergeron sparked the team with a perfect 5-5 performance from the field in the opening stanza as the Polar Bears held Middlebury to just 22% shooting while forcing 11 turnovers. Bowdoin continued its hot shooting in the second stanza and led by as many as 35 points on its way to victory.

Bowdoin forced 20 turnovers and converted them into 28 points. The Polar Bears held a 35-30 edge on the glass and held the Panthers to 34% shooting for the game, including 1-13 from three-point range.
