Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine - The Colby College women's basketball team held Bowdoin to just 29% shooting for the game in a 56-41 victory on Saturday afternoon in a battle of nationally-ranked foes at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
With the win, the 15th-ranked Mules improve to 5-0 this winter while the 10th-ranked Polar Bears suffer their second-straight setback and fall to 3-2.
Jil Vaughn led all scorers with 17 points and 10 rebounds for Colby, who also got 12 points from Aarika Ritchie. Bowdoin's lone player in double digits was Kaitlin Donahoe, who posted 12 for the game. The Polar Bears connected on just 16-55 from the field and 1-10 from three-point range. Colby wasn't much better from long range (5-22) but was able to hit 21-52 field goals overall (40.4%).
Colby used a late spurt before intermission to take a 28-21 lead at the break and Jacky McLaughlin nailed a three-pointer to quickly push the lead to 10 points, 31-21. The lead bounced between five and ten for the most of the second stanza. Bowdoin was able to trim the lead to five points, 38-33, after a Donahoe lay-in with 11:20 to go, but Colby responded with a 12-4 run to push the lead to double digits.
Bowdoin will look to get back into the win column on Tuesday evening when they host Husson at 7:00 p.m.
