Polar Bears Jump Ahead Early, Coast to Non-Conference Win Over Nor'easters

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team opened the game on a 21-6 run and never looked back in a 69-53 win over the University of New England on Tuesday evening at Morrell Gymnasium.

The Polar Bears (3-0) are ranked 11th in the WBCA Division III poll and have won 16 straight games over the Nor'easters (2-1) dating back to 1994.

Jill Henrikson was outstanding for Bowdoin, scoring 21 points with 10 rebounds and seven steals for the hosts. Kaitlin Donahoe had 15 points and five assists while Ellery Gould finished with 14 and six boards. Amy Hackett also saw double figures with 12 points for the Polar Bears. UNE got 17 points, seven caroms and four blocks from Kelley Paradis. Kelly Coleman pitched in 14 points and nine boards off the bench for the Nor'easters.

Gould keyed the early surge for Bowdoin, connecting on a trio of three-pointers and 12 first-half points to lead the hosts. The Polar Bears held a 37-23 lead at intermission behind eight three-pointers as a team in the opening period. The Nor'easters were able to close to within 12 points, 52-40, with 7:35 to go, but Bowdoin replied with a Henrikson trifecta to put the game out of reach.

UNE held a 42-40 edge on the glass, but Bowdoin forced 21 turnovers and held the visitors to just 32.1% shooting for the game.
