Bowdoin Beats Amherst as Hanczor Surpasses 1,000-Kill Plateau

Box Score

WATERVILLE, Maine - Bowdoin's Kristin Hanczor became the third Polar Bear volleyball player to surpass 1,000 kills in a 3-1 win over Amherst on Saturday at Colby.

Bowdoin took the win with game scores of 25-16, 25-22, 12-25, 25-15. At 18-1 this season, the 25th-ranked Polar Bears remained unbeaten in NESCAC play (8-0) and can secure the top seed for the conference championship with a win against Wesleyan on October 28.

Tory Edelman had 10 kills, including four aces, in the victory while Ellie Brennan led the squad with 12 kills. Hanczor's eight kills increased her career total to 1,005 and move her into second place all-time at Bowdoin, ahead of Julie Calareso '08 (1,001) and behind Gillian Page '10 (1,227).

Taylor Vail had 27 digs in the win while Sophia Cornew added 32 assists and three aces. Jillian Berkman also pitched in three aces for the Polar Bears.

Bowdoin will next play Springfield in a battle of nationally-ranked squads Friday at Smith College in the Hall of Fame Tournament.

The Polar Bears were joined by several recent alums at this weekend's matches in Waterville, who made the trip north from Brunswick on Homecoming Weekend.
