Second Half Surge Lifts Women's Soccer to Victory Over Hamilton

Box Score

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's soccer team scored twice in a two-minute span in the second half to take a 2-0 win over Hamilton on Saturday afternoon. The win gives the Polar Bears their first league win of the year and improves the squad to 5-3-3 (1-3-3 NESCAC). Hamilton falls to 6-6-0 (4-4-0 NESCAC) with the defeat.

Hamilton held a 6-3 edge in shots in the opening period, but could not get one past Bowdoin goaltender Maddie Lane, who stopped four shots in the first half to keep the game scoreless. The effort paid off midway through the second stanza when a through-pass from Becky Stoneman found Ellery Gould behind the Continental defense. Gould deposited a shot to the lower-left corner, giving Bowdoin a 1-0 lead in the 57th minute.

Just two minutes later, Bowdoin doubled their lead when Amanda Kinnestone split the Hamilton defense with a perfectly-timed feed to Toni DaCampo, who also beat Continental goaltender Liza Gergenti to the lower left to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage.

Lane sealed the win with eight saves in all for the Polar Bears, while Gergenti stopped three shots in all for Hamilton.
