BRUNSWICK, Maine - The second-ranked Bowdoin College field hockey team scored three goals in a span of 3:15 late in the first half to spark a 6-0 win over the University of Maine-Farmington on Wednesday evening. With the victory the Polar Bears remain unbeaten at 9-0, while the loss leaves the Beavers at 6-5 on the season.

The Polar Bears opened the game with 19 consecutive shots before breaking onto the scoreboard with 6:32 left in the first half. Liz Clegg received a pass across the top of the circle from Ella Curren and smacked the ball into cage to start the scoring. At 3:53, Katie Herter finished off a pass in front from Cathleen Smith to increase the lead to two. Smith followed with a goal just 36 seconds later on a feed from Lauren Schroeder in tight to the net.

Pam Herter recorded her first collegiate goal by redirecting a corner attempt by Ella Curren. Herter tipped the shot into the back of the net to seal the game for Bowdoin with 16:57 left to play. Cathleen Smith and Katie Herter each added another goal in the second half, while Curren finished with two assists on the night.

Felisha Taylor (35:00) and Curran Brierley (35:00) split time in net for the Beavers, making three and nine saves, respectively. Polar Bear goalie Kayla Lessard played the first 52:52 without seeing a shot before giving way to fellow netminder Hannah Gartner, who made one save to preserve the shutout in the remaining 17:08.

Bowdoin returns to NESCAC action this Saturday, October 15th as they face Hamilton College at home at 11am. Maine-Farmington also continues league play Saturday against Castleton.
