Bowdoin Moves into First Place in NESCAC With Win Over Conn College

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's volleyball team earned a weekend sweep of NESCAC opponents in a 3-1 win Saturday over Connecticut College. The victory is the 31st consecutive home win for the Polar Bears (13-1, 4-0 NESCAC) and moves them into sole possession of first place in the conference as the only remaining unbeaten in league play. The Camels fell to 11-4 (4-1 NESCAC) after three matches at Bowdoin this weekend.

For the second day in a row, Melissa Haskell sparked the Polar Bear attack with six aces, 10 kills and 13 digs. Ellie Brenna led all Bowdoin players with 12 kills while Kristin Hanczor also had 10 for the Polar Bears. Jillian Berkman notched 19 digs in the victory while Sophia Cornew added 40 assists.

The Camels were paced by 13 kills from Rachel Schroff and nine kills from Bianca Smith. Katie Ketcham had 10 digs and 29 assists for Conn. College.

The Polar Bears entered this season with wins in their previous 23 home matches, dating back to the fall of 2007 and spanning the construction the Peter Buck Center and remodeling of Morrell Gymnasium. This year's senior class now stands 30-0 in home matches. Bowdoin's last home defeat was a 3-2 loss to Amherst on October 7, 2007.
