Gould Ties Mark, But Polar Bears Fall in Overtime to Camels

Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Ellery Gould scored the game-tying goal with under seven minutes remaining, tying the Bowdoin record for career goals, but the Polar Bears suffered another tough overtime loss, 2-1 at Connecticut College on Saturday.

The Polar Bears (2-3-2, 0-3-2 NESCAC) have played in overtime in five of their seven games this season and all three losses have come in overtime.

Grace Bilodeau put the Camels ahead in the 18th minute and the Camels appeared poised to seal the win thanks to a seven-save performance from goaltender Natalie Signor. But Gould found the equalizer in the 84th minute, pushing the game into overtime. Just three minutes into the extra session, a bouncing ball in the box deflected off a Polar Bear defender and into the net, giving the Polar Bears another heartbreaking loss.

Bowdoin held a 17-7 advantage in shots for the game.

Gould's goal, her sixth of the season and 38th of her career, ties Marte Holden '85 for the most career scores by a Polar Bear women's soccer player. Bowdoin will next play at Maine-Farmington on Tuesday, October 4.
