Hanley Leads Bowdoin to Win Over Colby in NESCAC Opener

WATERVILLE, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's basketball team completed a season sweep of Colby with a 74-61 victory on Saturday afternoon in the NESCAC opener for both squads. The Polar Bears, winners of eight straight, improve to 11-2 (1-0 NESCAC) while the Mules fall to 8-7 (0-1 NESCAC).

Will Hanley finished two assists shy of a triple-double, scoring 22 points to go with 19 rebounds and eight assists. Hanley's 19 caroms are the most in a game by a Polar Bear since Joe Williams grabbed 20 against Babson in 1987. Justin Nowell pitched in 13 while Maximilian Staiger and Ryan O'Connell had a dozen apiece.

The Polar Bears took control early and had a 26-17 lead with 7:38 to play in the opening half. Colby cut the margin to 28-23 with 3:15 to play, but Bowdoin went on a 9-2 run to go up 37-25 at the break. Bowdoin darted out to a 48-30 lead about four minutes of the second half. The Mules got as close as 60-48 with 6:02 left in the game and forced the Polar Bears to take a timeout. Bowdoin settled down and pulled away for a 69-52 margin.

Bowdoin will return to action Tuesday night when they host Babson at 7:00 p.m.
