MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Bowdoin College men's soccer team allowed their first goals since last November and dropped their first contest of the season, 2-0, at Middlebury on Saturday. The Polar Bears fall to 1-1-2 (0-1-2 NESCAC) with the loss while the Panthers remain unbeaten at 5-0.

Bowdoin threatened with a corner kick early on, with the Panthers having a goal called back in the 32nd minute on an offsides call. Takahiro Nakamura had a chance for Bowdoin at 36:05, but his blast from inside the box was stopped by Tim Cahill. Middlebury took a 1-0 lead with 2:05 left in the half when Carson Cornbrooks crossed a ball to Alex Coucci, which was headed perfectly into the upper right hand corner of the net.

The Panthers had a great opportunity early in the second half, when Tyler Macnee's shot in the box was deflected out of bounds after a nice feed from Otis Pitney. Bowdoin had a great chance of their own in the 60th minute, as Call Nichols' shot was rolling towards the goal line before it was cleared away by Rob Cole.

Middlebury doubled its lead at 70:38 when Tyler Smith headed in a crossing pass from Jake Edwards for his third of the year. Bowdoin had a chance to get on the board with 12 minutes remaining, but Sean Bishop's header on a corner kick went over the crossbar.

Cahill made four saves to earn the win, while Dan Hicks stopped one shot for Bowdoin, who out-shot the Panthers by a 9-5 margin.
