WATERVILLE, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's volleyball team
completed an impressive weekend sweep of CBB rivals by blanking
Bates, 3-0, in a NESCAC match played at Colby on Saturday. The
Polar Bears improve to 5-2 (2-0 NESCAC) with their third-straight
victory.
The Polar Bears were never threatened against the Bobcats,
committing just 10 hitting errors in three sets and winning by
scores of 25-15, 25-14, 25-15.
First-year Ellie
Brennan burst onto the scene with 13 kills while Kristin Hanczor collected
nine kills and three blocks. Stephanie Drumright was
lethal from the serving line, notching five aces in the victory. Stephanie Bond keyed
the attack with 18 assists while also pitching in defensively (11
digs) along with Jillian Berkman (14
digs).
In an exhibition match on Saturday evening in Brunswick, the
Polar Bears fell 3-1 to a team from the University of New Brunswick
(Canada). UNB edged Bowdoin by scores of 25-21, 15-25, 25-23,
25-15. Drumright and Brennan had six kills apiece. Bowdoin excelled
defensively, blocking a total of 24 attempts, including eight total
blocks from Drumright.
Bowdoin will return to action on Wednesday night at home against
Maine Maritime Academy.
