BOX SCORE
BRUNSWICK, Maine - Brendan Garner had three doubles and three
runs scored to spearhead a 12-hit attack as the Bowdoin baseball
team cruised past Thomas 12-6 on Thursday afternoon. The Polar
Bears, ranked first in the latest New England poll, win their home
opener and improve to 16-5. Thomas falls to 6-13 this season.
Evan Farley got the start and win for Bowdoin, tossing five
innings and allowing four earned runs while striking out three.
Three Polar Bear pitchers combined for four innings of one-hit
relief as Ben Higgins, Eric Chenelle and Ian Edwards closed out the
win.
Thomas starter Jacob Chamblee was tagged for five runs in the
first inning, with Reid Auger delivering a leadoff home run to deep
left center. Bowdoin would never trail, adding three runs in the
fourth and seventh and a single run in the eighth.
Garner's three doubles tie the school record for doubles in a game
held by three others and tied most recently by Tom McMahon and
Jared Lemieux in 2003. Auger had two hits with his homer and a
double, while Brett Gorman also had two base hits. Bowdoin drew
seven walks as a team.
The Polar Bears will return to action this weekend when they play
at Middlebury for a single game Saturday and doubleheader Sunday.
