WATERVILLE, Maine - The Bowdoin College softball team racked up
a pair of mercy-rule wins at Thomas on Tuesday afternoon to improve
to 25-9, reaching the second-most wins in a single season in
program history. Bowdoin took a 10-0 win in five innings in game
one before coasting to a 10-2 win in the second contest.
Clare Ronan hit a pair of home runs to lead Bowdoin to the win in
game one, and finished with three hits and three RBI. Amy Hackett
also homered, posted three hits and had three RBI and runs scored
for the Polar Bears. Kara Nilan also reached base three times for
Bowdoin, who received five scoreless innings in the circle from
Tricia Thibodeau, who permitted just three hits and whiffed
six.
Bowdoin continued their onslaught in the nightcap as Molly Nestor
blasted a two-run home run to get the Polar Bears going. Nilan
racked up three more hits in game two, as did Lauren Coven. Gen
Barlow had a team-high three RBI. Nilan got the win in the circle
by tossing four innings and allowing one run.
The Polar Bears, who are one win away from tying the program
record for wins in a season, will open a key three-game NESCAC East
Division set at home against Trinity on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
