CLERMONT, Fla. - The Bowdoin College softball team played three
games Monday in Florida, posting a 1-2 mark and falling to 8-4
overall this spring. The Polar Bears defeated Allegheny 4-1 but
fell to Eastern Connecticut 3-0 and, in a game postponed from
Sunday, dropped to Chicago, 2-1 in extra innings.
In the win over Allegheny, Bowdoin's Tricia Thibodeau dominated,
allowing two hits - one of which was a solo home run - over six
innings with three strikeouts. Kara Nilan went 3-4 with a double
and RBI while Shavonne Lord collected a hit and two RBI. Michelle
Wells picked up the save in relief.
Eastern Connecticut's Molly Rathbun came within two outs of a
no-hitter against Bowdoin in a 3-0 decision for the Warriors.
Caroline Dewar broke up the perfect game in the seventh to post the
only Polar Bear hit.
Tied at one apiece against the University of Chicago, a two-out
double gave the Maroons a one-run lead in the top of the eighth.
Bowdoin couldn't match it in the bottom of the frame and dropped
2-1 Julia Jacobs went the distance, permitting five hits and
striking out seven in the tough-luck loss. Bowdoin scored its lone
run courtesy a Lord double followed by a Hillary Smyth single.
