CLERMONT, Fla. - The Bowdoin College softball team went 1-1 in a
twinbill on Friday, defeating Bethel 5-4 and falling to Ithaca,
2-1. The Polar Bears currently stand at 6-2 overall this
spring.
Bowdoin earned an exciting win over Bethel thanks to a strong
outing by Julia Jacobs, who allowed three hits in six innings with
six strikeouts. Lauren Coven had a two-RBI single while Jamie Paul
collected two hits, including a double. Toni DaCampo also had a
run-scoring double for the Polar Bears, who clinched the win in the
seventh thanks to a sharp throw from SS Shavonne Lord to Clare
Ronan, nabbing the potential tying run at the plate.
Ithaca's Britt Lille and Bowdoin's Kara Nilan locked up in a
pitcher's duel in the other contest as Nilan racked up 10
strikeouts in seven innings, getting charged with the tough-luck
loss after permitting a solo homer and the go-ahead run with two
outs in the bottom of the seventh. Hillary Smyth and Caroline Dewar
each had two hits while Nilan also had a double at the plate for
Bowdoin.
