WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Bowdoin College baseball team split a
doubleheader against Rhode Island College on Monday, falling in
game one 5-0 before bouncing back to take the nightcap 7-1. The
Polar Bears stand at 3-1 this year while the Anchorman are 4-2 this
season.
Rhode Island College's Andrew McKeon stymied the hot Polar Bear
bats in the opener, as Bowdoin could only muster five hits in their
first setback of the season. Matt Ruane and Dan Findley each had a
hit and a stolen base while Brendan Garner rapped a double. Joe
Pace was tagged with the loss on the mound for the Polar Bears.
The Bowdoin offense came alive in the second game as Dan Hicks led
the team with a 3-4 day with a single, double and triple. Findley
also collected three hits with two RBI while Brett Gorman, Joe
Comizio and Kevin Zikaras had two knocks apiece. Ben Higgins earned
the win for Bowdoin, allowing two hits over four innings, striking
out four. David Bernstein tossed three innings of relief to earn
the save.
