NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Bowdoin bench outscored Colby-Sawyer's 40-4 on Thursday night as the 24th-ranked women's basketball team cruised to a 72-55 road win. The Polar Bears earn their sixth-straight win and improve to 6-1 this season while the Chargers drop to 4-4.
Bowdoin was led by junior Nicole Coombes' 18 points and eight rebounds off the bench while sophomore guard Kaitlin Donahoe scored 16 points and dished a game-high six assists. Senior Katie Bergeron also reached double-figures with 11 points. Colby-Sawyer was led by sophomore Cailin Bullett who scored a game best 19 points.
Colby-Sawyer jumped out to an 11-6 lead in the first four minutes of the contest before Bowdoin answered with an 8-0 run to regain the advantage. The teams exchanged baskets for the next five minutes until a 10-0 run by the Polar Bears extended their lead to 26-18. Bowdoin dominated the paint in the first 20 minutes with a 24-8 edge en route to a 40-30 lead heading into the locker room. A 15-2 run midway through the second half sealed the win for the Polar Bears, who shot 43% from the floor and held a 44-16 advantage in the paint.
Bowdoin will close out their first semester when they host Maine Maritime on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
