Bowdoin Dominates Second Half in Win at Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, N.H. - A pair of Polar Bears had double-doubles and Maximilian Staiger netted a career-high 19 points to lead the Bowdoin men's basketball team to an 85-72 win at Colby-Sawyer on Thursday evening. The Polar Bears improve to 5-2 overall this season while the Chargers drop to 3-4.

Will Hanley stuffed the stat sheet for Bowdoin with 17 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals in the win. Randy DeFeo scored 12 points with 10 assists - the most by a Polar Bear since Kevin Bradley carded 10 in January of 2006 against Maine-Farmington. Staiger, who connected on nine of his ten attempts, obliterated his previous career high of seven points. Justin Nowell and Ryan O'Connell had 10 points apiece for the Polar Bears, who shot 58.6% for the game.

The first half featured back and forth action in its entirety with each team holding a largest advantage of just four points. Colby-Sawyer turned nine first half Bowdoin turnovers into 15 points, but trailed 37-35 at the break. The Chargers were within three points at the 11 minute mark of the second before Bowdoin exploded for an 11-1 run to lead 68-55. The Polar Bears, who shot 63% in the second, held a comfortable lead for the remainder of the game en route to the 85-72 win.

Bowdoin will host Colby on Saturday at 4:00 pm before heading to the Holiday break.
