BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin senior Katie Bergeron scored all 11 of her points in the second half as Bowdoin College women's basketball team rallied from an eight-point deficit with nine minutes to play to knock off 20th-ranked Colby on Saturday afternoon, 70-64. Bowdoin improves to 4-1 while the Mules drop their first game of the season and fall to 4-1 overall.
Kaitlin Donahoe and Jill Henrikson led all scorers with 16 points apiece while Alex Barry tallied 12 with seven rebounds. Colby was paced by 12 points apiece from Aarika Ritchie and Jacky McLaughlin. Rachael Mack had 10 points and eight rebounds for the Mules.
After Bowdoin held a slim 33-32 edge at halftime, Colby used three-pointers from McLaughlin, Ritchie and Manduca to build a 50-42 advantage midway through the second period. A six-point run by Bergeron, including a hoop-and-harm and three-pointer from the wing, trimmed the lead to two points, After drawing even on a pair of Barry free-throws, 57-57, Bergeron knocked down another trifecta to put the Polar Bears up for good, 60-57, with five minutes to play.
The Mules cut the lead to two points on two occasions in the closing moments, but Bowdoin buried four clutch free throws down the stretch to seal the win. The Polar Bears held a 35-33 edge in rebounds and forced 16 Colby turnovers while connecting on 20 of 27 free throw attempts.
