BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin's Nick Powell scored the game's only
goal in a 1-0 victory for the Polar Bear men's soccer team over
Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears improve to 5-1-2
(3-1-2 NESCAC) while the Cardinals fall to 4-5-0 (1-4-0 NESCAC).
Bowdoin is ranked sixth in the latest New England poll.
It took just over four minutes for the Polar Bears to get on the
board, as reigning NESCAC Player of the Week Tim Prior found Powell
in the middle of the box. Powell controlled the feed and buried a
shot in the lower-left corner at 4:22 to notch the game's lone
tally.
Bowdoin's defense would take over from there, clamping down on the
Cardinals and permitting just seven shots in the game. Dan Hicks
stopped three shots for Bowdoin in the win while Adam Purdy
collected six saves for Wesleyan.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Monday at Babson, ranked
fourth in New England. The Cardinals will host Western Connecticut
State on October 13.
