BANGOR, Maine – The fifth-ranked Bowdoin College field
hockey team remained perfect with a 5-0 victory over Husson
University under the lights at Husson's Winkin Complex on Wednesday
evening. Bowdoin improves to 12-0 this season while the Eagles fall
to 7-5.
Bowdoin reached the scoreboard 9:48 into the first half when Katie
Herter received an assist from Olivia King off a short corner.
Herter tallied her second goal of the day when she received a pass
from Ingrid Oelschlager at the top of the circle and scored. With
just under nine minutes left in the half, Emily French collected a
loose ball off a rebounded shot and put the ball in the net,
pushing the Bowdoin lead to 3-0.
In the first half, the Polar Bears outshot the Eagles 20-1 and
were awarded eight short corners. Bowdoin's Ingrid Oelschlager
netted her fourth goal of the year midway through the second period
and Lauren Schroeder tallied her first collegiate goal late in the
half to extend the Bowdion lead to 5-0. Kristen Capen made 13 saves
for the Eagles, while Bowdoin's Kayla Lessard tallied four saves in
the shutout.
Bowdoin faces Trinity at home for a 2:00 PM game on Saturday
afternoon.
