GORHAM, Maine - First-year Zach
Danssaert scored three goals as the 14th-ranked Bowdoin College
Polar Bears rolled past the University of Southern Maine Huskies,
7-0, in a non-conference men's soccer match Tuesday afternoon at
the USM Soccer Field. The win extends the Polar Bears winning
streak to seven, and improved their overall record to 8-1-2.
Bowdoin rose from 22nd to 14th in the latest poll released on
Tuesday. The Huskies dropped to 4-9-2 overall.
Danssaert picked up plenty of support from junior Eddie Jones who had a goal
and two assists, as well as senior Tim Prior and sophomore Michael Gale who each
tallied a goal and an assist. First-year Evan Gershkovich had
the other Polar Bear goal.
Danssaert put the Polar Bears ahead to stay in the sixth minute
when he ran onto a well-place pass from Jones and beat USM senior
goalkeeper David Kreps with a low shot under Kreps. Six
minutes later, Danssaert redirected a flick from the right end line
by senior Ben
Denton-Schneider past Kreps for a 2-0 lead. The freshman
forward scored his third goal of the match in the 68th minute
finishing a nice passing sequence from Jones and junior Nick
Powell. The three goals give Danssaert four markers on the
season.
Rookie goalkeeper Will Wise played
into the 79th minute for Bowdoin and registered two saves.
Junior Peter Kelley
did not need to make a save over the final 12 minutes. Kreps
recorded seven saves before giving way to sophomore Jeremy Turner
in the 72nd minute. Turner had one save.
Bowdoin hosts Trinity College on Saturday (3:00 p.m.) for a NESCAC
match.
