BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College field hockey team
dominated from start-to-finish, but needed a late score from Katie
Herter to seal a 1-0 win at Williams on Saturday. The
sixth-ranked Polar Bears remained one of three unbeaten teams in
Division III field hockey in improving to 11-0 (7-0 NESCAC) this
fall. Williams drops to 2-8 (1-6 NESCAC).
The Polar Bears suffocated the Ephs, holding a 23-3 shot advantage
and 19-0 lead in corners, but had trouble finding the back of the
cage until Herter pounced on a rebound with 10:37 remaining. The
goal was Herter's team-leading 12th of the season and third
game-winning tally.
Emily Neilson was
forced to make just a single save in the victory. Katrina Tulla
kept her team in the game with an 11-save performance for Williams.
The Polar Bears have beaten Williams nine straight times dating
back to 2004 and have not allowed a goal to the Ephs since
2007.
Bowdoin will return to action Wednesday night at Husson before
returning to Ryan Field for a key Senior Day battle against
Trinity.
