WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The 22nd-ranked Bowdoin College men's
soccer team scored twice in a three-minute span to take a 2-0
victory and deal third-ranked Williams their first loss of the
season on Saturday. The victory is the first for the Polar Bears
over the Ephs since September of 2004 and improves Bowdoin to 7-1-2
(4-1-2 NESCAC) and a tie for first in the conference. Williams
drops to 8-1-2 (4-1-2 NESCAC).
Following an evenly-played first period, Bowdoin finally broke
through in the 64th minute Ben Denton-Schneider connected with a
throw in from Daniel Chaffetz in the box to put Polar Bears up 1-0.
The Polar Bears scored again just moments later when Zach Danssaert
connected with a corner kick from Tim Prior on the far side of the
goal post and put the ball past keeper Peter Morrell in the 67th
minute.
In his first collegiate start, Bowdoin's Will Wise was forced to
make just two saves. Morrell had five saves for the Ephs in 90
minutes of play. The Ephs outshot the Polar Bears 15 to 11, but
Bowdoin managed seven shots on goal compared to only two for the
Ephs.
