MEDFORD, Mass. - The Bowdoin College women's volleyball team
survived Hamilton, 3-1, in a NESCAC volleyball match played at
Tufts University on Friday night. The Polar Bears improve to 14-7
(7-2 NESCAC) with win and build on their program-best mark with
their seventh conference victory of 2010.
Luisa LaSalle had a team-high 10 kills and notched 16 digs while
Stephanie Drumright, Melissa Haskell and Ellie Brennan had eight
apiece. Jillian Berkman had 21 of Bowdoin's 63 team digs while
Sophia Cornew dished out 38 assists.
Bowdoin prevailed by set scores of 25-22, 25-18, 18-25, 25-15, but
it wasn't easy. The Polar Bears rallied from an 11-2 deficit in the
opening set. Bowdoin never trailed in the second set, but Hamilton
returned the favor in the third, never giving Bowdoin an
advantage.
The pendulum swung back in Bowdoin's favor in the fourth set as
the Polar Bears took a lead at 2-1 and never relinquished it.
Bowdoin built a nine-point lead at 16-7 and pushed it to a set-high
ten at 18-8. Eventually the Polar Bears won the set, 25-15, and
took the match, 3-1.
Bowdoin will battle Williams in a 11:00 am contest Saturday at
Tufts. With the loss, Hamilton falls to 1-6 in conference and 9-10
overall.
