CASTINE, Maine - Amy Hackett scored a career-high 16 points and
Katie Bergeron notched 14 with eight rebounds to lead the Bowdoin
College women's basketball team to a 64-52 win over Maine Maritime
Academy on Tuesday evening. The 18th-ranked Polar Bears improve to
14-3 this season while the Mariners dip to 8-8 overall.
Bowdoin opened up an eight-point lead at the break, 33-25, thanks
to eight first-half points from Katie Bergeron and a suffocating
defensive effort that held the Mariners to 36% shooting and forced
14 turnovers. The Polar Bears quickly pushed the lead to double
figures in the second half and led by as many as 17 points before
settling for the 11-point final margin.
Bergeron finished with five assists and four steals to go with her
14 points and eight caroms for Bowdoin. Hackett collected six
boards and scored seven of her 16 points from the free-throw line.
Leah Rubega ended with nine points and eight rebounds. Sam Goda led
the Mariners with 13 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
