BEVERLY, Mass. - The Bowdoin College women's volleyball team
enjoyed a strong opening weekend at the Endicott Invitational,
closing out their appearance with two wins on Saturday to improve
to 3-0 overall this season. The Polar Bears were the lone team at
the Invitational to go unbeaten after defeating both Eastern
Connecticut and Endicott in 3-2 thrillers.
Bowdoin dropped Eastern Conn 22-25, 25-20, 25-10, 22-25, 15-9
before downing the host team 25-21, 16-25, 25-18, 14-25, 15-2.
Kristin Hanczor was named to the All-Tournament team after posting
double-digit kills in both games Saturday. The sophomore posted 10
kills and seven block assists against Eastern Conn before totaling
11 more kills in the victory against Endicott.
First-year Melissa Haskell was outstanding against the Warriors,
leading the team with 13 kills and 10 digs. Gillian Page earned 10
kills and 18 digs for the Polar Bears. Page followed up with
another strong performance against the Gulls, scoring 10 kills with
three aces and 15 digs. Rookie Victoria Edelman had nine kills
while Skye Lawrence earned a team-high 23 digs. Jenna Diggs sparked
the winning rally in the fifth game, helping Bowdoin jump to an 8-0
lead thanks to strong work at the service line. She finished with
three aces and 17 assists for the contest.
