BRUNSWICK, Maine - The 18th-ranked Bowdoin College women's
tennis team earned a thrilling 6-3 victory over 15th-ranked
Middlebury on Saturday morning. The Polar Bears improve to 7-5 and
have won four of their last five matches heading into a clash at
top-ranked Williams College this Sunday.
Bowdoin carried a 2-1 lead following doubles action, as Sarah
D'Elia and Emily Lombardi continued their hot play at the top
doubles slot with an 8-6 win. Rachel Waldman and Charlotte Hitch
followed up with a key 9-8 (4) victory at number two doubles for
Bowdoin.
D'Elia remained unbeaten in singles play this season with a
dominating 6-2, 6-4 victory at the number one position while
Lombardi cruised to a 6-2, 6-4 win at number two for the Polar
Bears. Rachel Waldman and Liz Pedowitz earned points at number four
and five, respectively, to clinch the victory for the hosts.
