WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Bowdoin College women's lacrosse
team scored the final six goals of the game, including a pair from
Ingrid Oelschlager and Katie Herter, to break a 12-12 tie and
defeat Ohio Wesleyan 18-12 in a game held at Lake Lytal Park in
West Palm Beach, Fla.
The Polar Bears took command early with a 5-0 run over a
four-minute span to take a 6-1 lead just 10 minutes into the
contest. The teams battled back and forth over the next 13 minutes,
with Bowdoin pulling out to an 11-5 lead with seven minutes to play
in the half.
From there, the Bishops rattled off the next six goals, including
three by Hannah Mudge, to tie the game at 11-11 seven minutes into
the second period. A McKenna Teague goal gave Bowdoin the lead, but
Abbey Miller tied it for a second time after OWU won the ensuing
draw and scored 24 seconds later.
Bowdoin won the next draw but was unable to convert; OWU had a
chance to take the lead but turned the ball over. A four-goal spurt
by Bowdoin in a three-minute span gave the Polar Bears some
breathing room.
Christina Denitzio and Oelschlager both had four goals for Bowdoin
to lead the Polar Bears; Hannah Mudge and Marlowe Mavian each
notched three goals for OWU. Liz Searfos made 17 saves in the cage
for the Bishops, while her counterpart Stef Collins-Finn made 13
saves for the Polar Bears. Dani Beauford had a game-high six caused
turnovers for OWU
