WELLINGTON, Fla. - The Bowdoin College women's lacrosse team earned
their first win of the season in dramatic fashion, capping a 5-1
run over the final 8:23 to take a 16-15 win over Drew on Tuesday
night. Katie Herter scored the game-winning goal with 30 seconds
remaining while Ingrid Oelschlager posted three goals and an assist
to lead the Polar Bears.
Trailing 10-6 at intermission, Bowdoin outscored Drew 10-5 in the
second period to take the victory. The Polar Bears trailed by three
goals with 15:50 remaining following a Cara Jeffries goal for Drew
that made it 14-11. McKenna Teague started the decisive Bowdoin run
with a score at 8:23. Katy Dissinger followed with a tally at 7:38
and Lindsay McNamara tied the game at 14 apiece on a goal with 5:36
remaining. Stacie Brown put Drew back on top with just 2:51 left,
but Bowdoin rebounded with an Oelschalger goal at 1:02 that
deadlocked the contest at 15.
Drew won the ensuing draw control and Lyndsay Rossi had a chance to
win the game Rangers with under a minute to play, but Steph
Collins-Finn made a huge save and started the ball in transition
for Bowdoin. Just 15 seconds later, Herter found the back of the
net to give Bowdoin their first lead of the game. Teague won the
following draw control and the Polar Bears ran out the clock for
the win.
Teague, Herter and Oelschalger each posted a hat trick while
Dissinger, McNamara and Libby Barton had two goals apiece.
Collins-Finn stopped 11 shots for Bowdoin. Stacie Brown had an
astounding eight goals for Drew while goaltender Stef Rutkowski
made 13 stops between the posts.
