CASTINE, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's basketball team
sprinted out to a 12-3 lead and never looked back in a 79-55
victory over Maine Maritime Academy on Tuesday evening. The Polar
Bears improve to 5-1 overall this season while the Mariners fall to
2-3 overall.
Thanks to three-pointers from Paul Sellew and Randy DeFeo, Bowdoin
led 12-3 after four minutes. The Mariners were able to trim the
lead to seven points later in the half, 24-17, but Bowdoin replied
with a 25-4 run to end the period and open a 49-21 advantage at
intermission. Maritime got no closer than 24 points in the second
half.
Ryan O'Connell connected for three of Bowdoin's six first-half
three-pointers and led all scorers with 20 points, hitting five of
six trifectas for the game. Paul Sellew finished with 16 points
while Justin Nowell ended with 11 for the Polar Bears. Paul
Campbell led the Mariners with 16 points.
Bowdoin held a 39-28 advantage on the glass and connected at a
53.4% clip for the game.
