BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's volleyball team won
the 2009 Midcoast Classic with a perfect weekend at Morrell
Gymnasium. The Polar Bears claimed four victories in all, three in
round-robin play, to edge Rivier (2-1), Worcester State (1-2) and
Mount Holyoke (0-3).
Gillian Page was named the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player,
while fellow co-captain Jenna Diggs was also named to the
All-Tournament Team for the host Polar Bears along with first-year
Melissa Haskell.
Other members of the All-Tournament team included Rivier's
Danielle Stoodley and Kenna Finlayson, Mount Holyoke's Rosa
Marruffo and Worcester State's Lauren Saylor.
Bowdoin (11-5) has won five consecutive matches overall and will
return to the court at Tufts University on October 7.

2
Bowdoin 3, Emerson 2 (8-25, 25-15, 25-22, 21-25,
15-12)
The Polar Bears rallied in a back-and-forth affair after a
dominating first-set performance by the Lions. A balanced attack
led the home team, as Stephanie Drumright (10 kills) and Melissa
Haskell (nine kills) paced Bowdoin.
Bowdoin 3, Worcester State
0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-19)
The Polar Bears disposed with the Lancers in short fashion,
cruising to the three-set victory. Gillian Page led Bowdoin with 12
kills while Melissa Haskell earned 11 kills and 12 digs.
Rivier 3, Mount Holyoke
0 (25-6, 25-13, 25-21)
The Raiders cruised to a three-set win on Friday evening. Nicole
Rodriquez notched four kills to lead Rivier with Danielle Stoodley
collected a game-high 16 digs. Rosa Maruffo totaled four kills for
Mount Holyoke with Katia Kuc posted 11 assists and 11 digs in the
loss.
Saturday, October

Bowdoin 3, Mount Holyoke 0 (25-15, 25-6,
25-14)
Kristin Hanczor had a game-high 10 kills as the Polar Bears eased
to a three-set victory. Melissa Haskell had seven kills and seven
digs while Stephanie Bond earned 27 assists. Morgan Cooley led
Mount Holyoke with five kills while Rosa Marruffo collected nine
digs in the loss.
River 3, Worcester State
0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-21)
Rivier held off Worcester in a three-set decision. Kenna Finaylson
had an impressive outing, posting 15 kills for the Raiders while
Lauren Saccoccio had 18 assists. Emileigh Cenedella collected 20
digs for Rivier in the win.
Bowdoin 3, Rivier 0
(25-17, 25-14, 25-14)
The Polar Bears closed out a perfect weekend with their second
three-set win of the day. A near-perfect performance by Gillian
Page, who had 12 kills, seven aces and eight digs paced the hosts.
Jenna Diggs had 30 assists while Jillian Berkman notched 13 digs.
Kenna Finlayson notched six kills in the loss while Lauren
Saccoccio had 10 assists in the loss for Rivier.
Worcester State 3, Mount
Holyoke 0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-21)
The Lancers won their final match of the tournament in a three-set
victory. Mount Holyoke was led by Kathryn Brummer's six kills,
Katia Kuc's 11 assists and Kara Neidhardt's 12 digs in the loss.
